Up The Guts: That’s a Wrap!

21.Sep.2017

One bus, four bands, twelve workshops, eighteen shows and a bloody long drive.

Up The Guts ensured a massive trek from the deep south, to the far north. Playing in total eighteen shows and delivering twelve learning and development music workshops for youth.

The 2017 line-up featured the bands – Dumb Punts, Loose Tooth, Neighbourhood Youth and a collection of hardened Guts veterans back for another year (Jack Parsons – The Pretty Littles, Jo Syme – Big Scary, and Joe Alexander – Scott and Charlene’s Wedding).

The touring team of seventeen also visited the communities of Santa Teresa, Ngukurr and Barunga in the Northern Territory to highlight the incredible bands and musicianship that exists, whilst exposing contemporary bands from the major cities to life out bush.

Up The Guts’ core philosophy is to show the broader music community the reasons to touring through regional and central Australia while also encouraging young people along the way to pick up an instrument. It’s such a joy to see the smile on these kids faces when they experience the gift that only music can provide.

This year, co-creators Jack Parsons and James Clarke devised a new itinerary built around achieving these goals:

VIC: Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo, Warrnambool

SA: Mt Gambier, Adelaide, Jamestown, Whyalla, Quorn, Coober Pedy

NT: Santa Teresa, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Barunga, Ngukurr, Katherine, Grove Hill, Darwin

This touring route increased the amount of shows and time spent in regional and isolated communities in a direct response to the undeniable enthusiasm in these areas throughout last year’s tour.

It also served to explore and celebrate the depth of musical culture that exists in Australia’s red centre.

The tour had many highs and a few lows along the way, but Up The Guts 2.0 was a project that continues to connect two very different worlds that exist in Australia though one shared value. Music.

Up The Guts is proudly sponsored by major partner Coopers and supporting partners Casio, Levi’s®, APRA AMCOS, Arts SA, Creative Victoria, Soundhouse Music Alliance, and BP .

As part of our ongoing support of the Australian Music industry – Levi’s looks forward to being a part of Up The Guts in 2018.
